Tips to make your puppy’s first visit to the groomers run smoothly

Your puppy typically has to be about 10-12 weeks old or must have had his or her second round of vaccinations before visiting the groomers for the first time.

Preparations To Ease Your Dog For The Groomers:

(What You Should Do For Your Dog)

  • Get your puppy used to being on raised surfaces.
  • Always reward good behavior.
  • Familiarize your dog with friendly settings and with random interactions.
  • Familiarize your dog to feel safe around foreign noises.
  • Keep your dog calm and safe with you as you first enter the groomers.
  • Play with your puppy’s ears, paws, brush fur.
  • Train your dog to feel comfortable during car rides.
  • Research groomers before you take them to any groomer — to ensure a serene/safe environment for your dog
    • Once you find the groomers that you like, BE ASSERTIVE and make sure they understand what kind of care you want for your dog to the groomers.

** If your dog has any trouble, DO NOT SCOLD them. Ease them into each training and procedure. **

This training/preparation for their first visit is IMPORTANT because most dogs are afraid/nervous of the sounds of the different equipment, a new setting, and unfamiliar people interacting with them.

What Most Groomers Normally Offer:
